Dr. Saama Sabeti is a skilled Cornea, Anterior Segment, Cataract, and Refractive Surgeon. She is actively involved in clinical research, education, and quality improvement initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to advancing patient care and global health.
Cornea, Anterior Segment, Cataract, and Refractive Expert
Dr. Sabeti provides subspecialty clinical care at Precision Cornea Centre, performs corneal transplantation and anterior segment surgery at The Ottawa Hospital, serves as a Cornea consultant to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and performs cataract and refractive surgery at Herzig Eye Institute Ottawa. She has a particular interest in corneal ectasia and offers therapeutic refractive surgery services such as topography-guided PRK and corneal allogeneic intrastromal ring segments (CAIRS) to reshape irregular corneas in patients with disorders such as keratoconus.
Dr. Sabeti has a strong passion for research, serving as Director of Research at Precision Cornea Centre. She has presented and published numerous studies on national and international platforms. She actively supervises and mentors trainees pursuing projects in both clinical research as well as patient education. She greatly enjoys teaching and is involved in the clinical and surgical training of residents and fellows as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa, as well as the academic teaching of residents internationally.
Dr. Sabeti has had long-standing interests in public health, health policy, patient safety, and patient education, and currently serves as the Quality Improvement Lead for the Department of Ophthalmology at The Ottawa Hospital. She is particularly enthusiastic about sustainability initiatives and exploring waste reduction opportunities in the ophthalmic operating room and has received a Quality and Patient Safety Grant from The Ottawa Hospital Academic Medical Organization to pursue these efforts. She also has a keen interest in global health and has volunteered abroad to serve at both grassroots and policy levels. She is an intern alumna of the World Health Organization Headquarters in Geneva as well as a Global Health Fellow alumna of the Duke University Global Policy and Governance Program.

Personal Achievements
- Dr. Sabeti has a passion for advancing knowledge and best practices in her field through clinical research in her role as Director of Research at Precision Cornea Centre, at any one time overseeing close to a dozen studies, including randomized clinical trials.
- Education is a priority in Dr. Sabeti’s Cornea practice. She enjoys teaching fellows, residents, and medical students, and provides regular academic, clinical, and surgical teaching in ophthalmology through the University of Ottawa. She also recently served as Co-Chair of the 54th annual Sally Letson Symposium of the University of Ottawa Eye Institute, arranging for a variety of lectures by renowned international guest speakers on cutting edge topics in Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery.
- Dr. Sabeti’s strong commitment to global health is exemplified by her extensive experience volunteering in numerous countries around the world, including Ecuador, Belize, and India. Her interest and knowledge pertaining to health policy burgeoned through her experiences as a Global Health Fellow of the Duke University Global Policy and Governance Program, as an intern at the World Health Organization Headquarters in Switzerland, and as a master’s student at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
- Dr. Sabeti has since pursued her interests in health policy and clinical effectiveness as the Quality Improvement (QI) Lead for the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa, with interests in patient safety, sustainability initiatives, and ergonomics. Further to working in QI, she is also on the Residency Wellness Committee for the University of Ottawa Ophthalmology Program, promoting wellness initiatives and support for the residents during their training period.
- Dr. Sabeti is an avid classically-trained pianist and has a love of composing music.
