Specializing in glaucoma care with advanced training in both Canada and Iran, Dr. Maryam Abtahi is a distinguished Cataract and Anterior Segment surgeon.
Cataract and Anterior Segment Expert
Dr. Abtahi obtained her Doctor of Medicine and completed her ophthalmology training in Iran. She then pursued a second residency at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute, where she served as a chief resident. After obtaining her FRCSC certificate in 2017, Dr. Abtahi continued her education by attending the University of Alberta for a fellowship specializing in glaucoma. Alongside her clinical work, she has a strong interest in Ophthalmic education and earned a Master of Education with a concentration in Health Professions Education at the University of Ottawa.
Since 2018, Dr. Abtahi has been a valued member of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa, where she holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine. Her dedication extends to the teaching of residents, medical students, and ophthalmic technician students. She received the “Residents’ Surgical Teaching Award” from the Department of Ophthalmology
