Meet Dr. Catherine Eplett

Dr. Catherine Eplett has over three decades of experience as an ophthalmologist. She has helped thousands of patients look their best and see their best as a refractive, cataract, and oculoplastic specialist.

Refractive, Cataract, and Oculoplastic Expert

“Dr. Catherine Eplett has been an Ophthalmic surgeon for more than 30 years. As an experienced cataract and refractive surgeon, she has improved the vision and therefore the quality of life for thousands of patients.

Dr. Eplett graduated from McMaster University Medical School in 1984 followed by an Internship at Women’s College Hospital in 1985. She went on to complete her Residency in Ophthalmology at The University of Toronto in 1990. With a Fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, she was admitted as a Fellow to The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Eplett is American Board certified in Ophthalmology and for many years was a member of the Toronto Oculoplastics Society.

As an Ophthalmologist, Dr. Eplett was on Active Staff performing cataract surgery at the Scarborough Health Network for 30 years. Dr. Eplett enjoyed teaching medical students and residents of Ophthalmology at The University of Toronto for many years.

Dr. Eplett is a Cataract, Refractive and Oculoplastic surgeon and in 2012, was delighted to bring these skills to the Herzig Eye Institute. Throughout her professional career, Dr. Eplett has diligently pursued the necessary study and passion to remain on the cutting-edge of cataract and refractive surgery. With her A.R.C.T. in Piano, Dr. Eplett had a promising career in concert piano before she turned her focus to a medical career. As a humanitarian, Dr. Eplett performed primary ophthalmic care and cataract surgery on a mission in Northern Brazil. Dr. Eplett enjoys golf, scuba diving, skiing, travel and lives in Toronto with her husband and their two designer Birman cats.

Education

McMaster University

  • Dr. Eplett received her Honors Bachelor of Science from McMaster
    University in 1981.
  • She received her Doctor of Medicine from McMaster University in 1984.

Woman’s College Hospital

  • She then completed her rotating internship at the Women’s College Hospital in Toronto in 1985.

University of Toronto

  • Dr. Eplett completed her residency in ophthalmology from the University of Toronto in 1990.

Mount Sinai Hospital

  • She went on to complete her oculoplastic fellowship from Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto in 1991.

Personal Achievements

  • Dr. Eplett has a surgical interest in cataract and refractive surgery, and she serves on the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS).

  • Dr. Eplett is also involved in several medical associations, including the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), the Ontario Medical Association (OMA), and the Canadian Ophthalmological Association (COS).

  • Dr. Eplett has provided humanitarian aid, performing cataract surgery and ophthalmic care on a mission in Northern Brazil.
  • To provide optimal care right here at home, Dr. Eplett also serves on boards such as the Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (EPSO), the Toronto Ophthalmological Society (TOS) and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).

  • Dr. Eplett is also a long-time member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), which acts alongside Parliament to oversee the education of medical specialists in Canada.
