Understanding LASIK: Laser Vision Correction in Ottawa
Herzig Eye institute is your premier destination for LASIK in Ottawa. LASIK is a safe and effective procedure that can significantly improve your vision! Our experienced team of surgeons specialize in LASIK eye surgery, utilizing state-of-the-art technology to correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. With LASIK, you can achieve clearer vision and reduce, even eliminate your dependence on glasses or contact lenses. Our personalized approach ensures that each patient receives the best possible outcome. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and take the first step towards clear vision with LASIK in Ottawa.
Alongside LASIK, we offer a multitude of eye care services including:
- Cataract Surgery – A common procedure aimed at restoring vision impaired by cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s natural lens. During the procedure, the clouded lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens, known as an intraocular lens (IOL). Typically performed on an outpatient basis, cataract surgery is quick and generally painless, often requiring only local anesthesia.
- SMILE – SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is a minimally invasive procedure used to correct vision problems such as myopia (nearsightedness). It involves creating a small incision in the cornea to access and remove a tiny lenticule of tissue, reshaping the cornea and correcting the refractive error. Unlike LASIK, SMILE requires no flap creation, resulting in potentially faster recovery and reduced risk of complications such as dry eye.
- PRK – Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) is a type of laser eye procedure designed to correct vision impairments such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. Unlike LASIK, PRK does not involve creating a corneal flap, making it suitable for individuals with thin corneas or other corneal issues.
- ICL – Implantable Collamer Lenses (ICL) is a vision correction procedure that involves placing a thin, prescription lens inside the eye to correct refractive errors. Unlike traditional laser refractive procedures like LASIK or PRK, ICL surgery does not involve reshaping the cornea. Instead, the ICL is inserted through a small incision and positioned behind the iris, providing clear vision by working with the eye’s natural focusing system.
- RLE – Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is a surgical procedure used to correct refractive errors and reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses. This procedure is similar to cataract surgery but is performed primarily for individuals with refractive errors who may not have significant cataracts.
- Corneal Cross-linking – Corneal Cross-lining aims at halting the progression of keratoconus, a condition where the cornea weakens and thins, leading to a cone-like bulge. Corneal cross-linking aids in preventing further deterioration of vision and can negate the need for more invasive interventions like corneal transplantation.
